“Tape Measure Award” |
|||
On April 17, 1953 the infamous phrase “Tape Measure” home run was coined after a mammoth shot 21 year old Mickey Mantle hit off of Washington Senator’s Chuck Stobbs sailing over the left center field wall. It was estimated at 565 feet! This after the ball had glanced off of a sign above the fence.
